Birthday Party Idea

A new birthday party idea for children from 8 to 68* is to host a hula hoop making party!  Almost anyone can learn to hoop if they have a hoop that’s the right size for their body.  Hoops are like bicycles that way–it’s much harder to learn if the bike is too big or too small.  Hoops are better than bikes in that you don’t skin your knees when you’re learning!

You can get the supplies to make hoops yourself, or you can hire a hoop dance teacher to bring all the supplies and equipment to party.  When I’m booked for a hoop-making party, I arrive with a selection of hoops to “try on” so that everyone can figure out what size hoop they like best.  I also bring a selection of hoop tubing, connectors, tubing cutters, and decorative tape so that everyone can take home a hoop in the color they like best.  All I need is a place to set a pot of water to simmer, so that we can soften the ends of the tubing to insert the connectors.  Older children can connect the hoop ends themselves; younger children will need help with the “hot water” step.

Call now to schedule a hoop making party!  Prices start at $300 for up to 12 hoops / guests.

*There is no real upper limit on who can hoop.  If you can walk easily, you can probably learn to hoop.  (People with limited lower-body mobility can learn to use hoops on their arms.)
