My biggest hoops are made of 1″/160 PSI tubing, connected by a standard irrigation connector (male-male, barbed plastic). These hoops range from 46″ to 60″ in diameter.
The connectors are designed to connect water pipe in straight lines that never move. The connectors are NOT designed to keep tubing connected in a tight circle when the tubing is rotated under reasonable force, particularly by adolescent males showing off.
Some of my big hoops have come apart.
We first “remade” them, by trimming off the disconnected end, heating it in boiling water, and reconnecting the hoop. That fix didn’t hold.
The second time a hoop came apart, we knew we had to pin it.
