John (aka Ubi the Clown) and I were hired to work at the Customer Appreciation Day, hosted by Lee, Inc., a car dealership with locations across south eastern NC. This event took place in Mt. Olive, home of the famous Mt. Olive Pickle Company.

We set up in the grass next to the dealership, and a line had already formed, but alas, not for us! The stars of the event were Ron, Amy and Bobby of the Lizard Lick Towing and Recovery Company. They ran a 3-hour line all day! They did agree to stay until everyone who wanted a picture got one; we left before they finished so we didn’t get a chance to see how they managed the end of the line.
People stepped in and out of line to get balloons from Ubi for their children, and to play with the hoops and dare their friends and relatives to try the big one.
Incidentally, the last time my sister was in NC, she had a flat tire on I-95 on the way home. She called her auto club, and someone from Lizard Lick took the call! My nephew had seen their TV show and recognized the name on the truck. We had thought to get him an autograph, but you can’t stand in a three-hour line when you’re working yourself.
I make and sell hoops for people in Eastern NC, most of whom buy them at events. If you don’t live nearby and are looking for a custom hoop by mail, try Diana Lopez’ hoops from Body Hoops.
